Newbie question...
I'm trying to replace the passenger side headlight bulb. The manual says to unplug the electrical connector and then rotate the plastic retainer clockwise. Anyone has experience with this? Is the electrical connector the white attachment? It seems to be a snug fit, any ideas on how to loosen it and remove it? Is the black piece the plastic retainer? Does the air cleaner housing need to be removed for replacing the bulb? Thanks. |

I don't recall the colors but the connector has a latch, with a locking tab on it, you have to press with your finger before pulling it straight back off the bulb - look at it carefully with a strong inspection light and you should be able to make out the latch... maybe poke with a small screwdriver to see how the latch moves. The retaining ring is a knurled ring which holds the headlamp bulb in. You turn it anti-clockwise, looking from the back of the bulb, to loosen it. If it's years since those things were disturbed, they will be stubborn to get off. I'd suggest a spritz with silicone spray to ease things. >Does the air cleaner housing need to be removed for replacing the >bulb? IIRC you at least have to loosen it and move it a bit. You do NOT need to remove the air box. The white-grey part is the connector. It IS very tight. You need to get the frontmost part of the latch (closest to the headlight) to lift up to clear the tab at the top of the bulb housing. Only then will the connector wiggle off the bulb housing. The black three-sided ring is then turned counter-clockwise a third of a turn then pulled off. The bulb's O-ring will be a tight fit and will require some wiggling to get loose. A bit of silicone grease will help the new bulb's O-ring slip home more easily. Don't touch the glass of the new bulb! -- TeGGeR® |

Thanks to all for your help. I was successfully able to replace the
bulb following your suggestions. You guys were right, the air box does not need to come off. Thought I would mention this for future newbies...
After I removed the bulb along with the bulb holder, I didn't realize that the replacement bulb comes with the bulb holder too... and I ended up spending some time trying to pull off the bulb from the bulb holder ![]() |
