Hi folks,

I installed a car radio into a friend's 98 Civic EX 4 door
sedan. Everything on the Internet pointed to the fact I needed a
relocation harness to retain remote entry features, so I could keep the
entire OEM radio inside the dash as well as the new replacement radio.

I asked my local dealer to order in a Metra 70-1720T harness, made for 96
to 98 Civics with Remote Entry.

When I opened the dash up and pulled the OEM radio, I found the remote
entry was a separate module (dark grey) screwed into the top of the OEM
radio which had an indentation for this module. The car harness had three
plugs: a small green one and a normal radio harness plug that went into
radio itself, and a large green one that went into the module.

I unscrewed the module from the radio and connected it to the car using
only the large green plug. The door unlock etc worked fine.

I then proceeded to wire up the new radio using the harness, but didn't
keep the OEM radio inside at all. (ie, I could have used a normal 1720
instead of a 1720T)

The final setup was: Radio connector into new radio, large green
connector into the dark grey remote module only.

Everything seems to work okay. Is this normal?
