My '95 4-door Accord EX has sensors, I guess, in each door that cause a small red light on
the dash to light up if the door isn't closed properly. Good safety idea, methinks. The problem is now the sensor for the front driver side seems to be too sensitive or is shorting out or something, because the red light on the dash flickers on and off as I drive. Not a safety issue as I checked when this first started to make sure the door was closed. The sensor also controls the dome light as it flickers on and off at the same time. (I can switch the dome light off.) Any suggestions on how to find and replace or repair the sensor? Thanks. |

Not sure about the '95 Accord, so the following may not be relevant for
your car. Honda usually puts the switch in the door jamb at the rear end of the door. Look for a small rubber boot somewhere below the door lock striker in the jamb. About 1" wide and perhaps 1 1/4" tall. You can peel off the rubber boot and there will be a single screw holding the switch. There is a single wire plugged in to the back of the switch. Be careful so the wire does not get lost inside the sheet metal if you unplug the switch. Phil,
Before you start tearing the switch apart, try taping a penny to your door so the button will be held in better. It could just be you door latch has worn a bit and adjusting the striker is the correct cure. Adjusting the striker will require an impact driver, if that's the problem. (I can switch the dome light off.) how is the door flushness with the body? most of the time adjusting the striker in will fix this. the door may be latched but not as tight to the body as when new.
