I bought this car, but didn't want to pay for the 495 dollar alarm that
apparently is automatically installed.
They said that they were going to remove it, but I don't think they had time to
in the few minutes before I picked it up.
My guess is it's still in the car, and just needs to be "activated" or
something.
Any good ways to figure this out/activate it myself?
Certainly some hot-shot mechanic, Honda wexpert, or alarm installer must know
an answer to this...
Any help appreciated.

Do you have keyless remote? In the past some Civics have come without
keyless remote and the only thing you had to do was buy the keyfob.
Don't know if this applies to the 2003 EX, and I do not know how this
ties in with the alarm system.

Just for the fun of it, go to
http://www.handaccessories.com/civic01.html and check out the
installation instructions for the alarm system. Then you can see if you
find the relevant modules already installed in your car.

Another thing is that if your salesperson told you that the alarm was
pre-installed and would have to be taken out, it really does not mean
much. I wouldn't accuse him/her of lying, but I have found that the
sales staff at car dealerships have an amazing lack of factual knowledge
(Salesman at Stevens Creek Honda in San Jose, CA when asked about the
difference between VTEC and i-VTEC: "Eh, it makes the engine rev faster
without overheating").
