I do take it in for warranty repair at the dealership. This group
doesn't exclude that. Some examples: Wife's 2003 CRV dome bulb worked only sometimes and usually not at night. The dealership found nothing during the day and did nothing. The light was again not working the night after my wife brought it home from service. Thanks to information from others here, I figured it had to be the bulb. Put a new one in myself. Fixed it the next day. I could have waited two more weeks for another appointment, but it wasn't worth putting my kids in a dark car for that long. I am about to bring my 2003 Accord EX V6 in. I know from this group that my driver seat moving is rather common and plan to be rather emphatic about it being fixed. I also know that Honda hasn't provided a good fix yet either. I got burned on my old 1994 Accord EX, I didn't know about a TSB about a problem that plagued me for years. By the time I called Honda after finding out about the TSB, I was out of warranty and out of luck. I also agree about other reasons listed from other folks. While warranty work is "free" in the sense that you are not charged money, it still costs. Time is very valuable to me. To juggle kids, work, and schedule just to get a car in for a service appointment is enough hassle. Then there is tangling with the service department. <g> Information about what to expect helps me make more efficient use of my time (and irritation!). As a group, we Honda owners can better assure Honda fixes deficiencies by sharing information about our problems with our new Honda's. Sharing information is especially important as Honda does not make TSB's available to us like some other car makes. Knowledge is power. I say, post your problems, solutions and ideas. Because when I took it to the dealer they kept the car for three days without fixing the problem. John |

One benefit of frequent dealership visits is a constant supply of new tools.
My car has been to the dealer five times in the last three months, and from that, I have obtained a nice Snap-on hook tool, a special Honda door clip removal tool, and a nice Snap-on socket extension - all left in my car after service work. That's only "good" if they are left in an accessible place.:-) I had a VW Beetle which had a mysterious clunk on moderately hard corners - right corner... clunk, right corner... no clunk, left corner... clunk, left corner... no clunk...... When someone else drove the car with me in the front passenger seat it was plainly coming from in front of the passenger. There was a body "cavity" in the (front) trunk, behind the wheel well which I couldn't get my right arm down to feel for anything but one day discovered I could get my left arm down there, with a bit of grease on it, and I was able to fish out a pair of pliers - still have those pliers.:-) Rgds, George Macdonald "Just because they're paranoid doesn't mean you're not psychotic" - Who, me?? |
