Default 1988 honda tranny 5spd

Hi

I just took out my old tranny that was pretty much shot, I made out of
two bad transmissions I made one good one. When I finished it up I
noticed it went into all the gears fine. I then started it up and took
it around the block and right away I noticed 1st, 2nd 5th and reverse
work fine. 3rd and 4th seem to be jammed I just can't seem to get it
into gear for those two gears. I was wondering if anyone had some
insite on this maybe I missed something simple. I just thought maybe I
could get some ideas before I go and take the tranny out again.

thanks in advance

KC

What car is this for?
What parts did you exchange between the trannys?
Did you reshim per Helms manual?

Sorry about that left out the best part

1988 Honda Accord Exi 2dr coupe Efi 5spd manual
one tranny had a stripped reverse gear (1 thourgh 5 gears were good)
2nd tranny had a stripped 5th gear, 4th gear and 2nd gear(but reverse
gear was good)

I took the reverse spline shaft out of the 2nd tranny and replaced it
with the first one which had a bad one. Everything seemed very nice
when putting the tranny back together and 3rd and 4th gear shifted
fine right when I first started the car and then they jammed. It
doesn't matter how much I force that stick shift she just won't go
into 3rd or 4th gear i don't want to force it to much

I'm not big on technical slang on parts and gears all I know is there
is two splines with gears lapped on top of each other. I did not mix
any of them up I kept the gears together when I took them off and made
sure they went exactly back on the same way.

"Did you reshim per Helms manual?" (I'm not sure what helms manual is
but this car is just a work car for me to go from A to B. I have a
2nd little black exi honda accord 2dr 5spd that I plan on fixing up
and looking somewhat nice I like these cars there so die hard so I
went and purchased another one for safe keeping runs like a dream.

thanks again for any help you can shed on this tranny issue.

wish I could help more, but my expertise is in Civic/Integra trannys.

On those trannys, whenever you change any of the gears on the input
shaft/mainshaft, you must recheck the shim clearance.

Helms is the company that prints the FACTORY manuals.
