i want to soften up the ride on my civic as i spend alot of time in
the city feeling every little bump..

what would i need to replace/change? springs? shocks? would i have to
change all corners?

also wanted to get an air filter is there anything to consider besides
k&N? how expensive are those?

Rears are the cuprit.

I wouldn't mess with anything suspension related. You would be hard pressed
to get some lower rate springs become of bottoming out and any stuts you get
won't be any softer than factory. You either have to live with it or check
out the tires you have. Make sure the tire pressures are at the factory
recommended leves and not above because that will cause a bumpier ride.
Also the highe series tire you have the better. The more sidewall you have
the cushier the ride. So if you have 50-60 series tires on there you may
want to go to an appropriate 70 series tire although I would just live with
it.

City driving requires less use of the rear shocks. Replace the rears with
dead or semi-dead shocks. The dead will ride much more comfortably.

But remember, anything above 40 mph will compromise handling or even severing
the shocks in half.
