Default Navi System DVD Update

Has anyone seen anything about an update to the Navi System DVD for
the Accord? The last one I saw was dated about 3 years old. The
Honda website, when you can even access it, doesn't even show one for
an Accord anymore.

There was a new one just released for the Acuras (I have a 2000 TL). The
links on the Acura web site were not updated and linked directly to the old
release. I found the new one by following the link to the Alpine site and
then hand-hacking the URL to the parent directory. Following the prompts
down from there got me to the new release.

I just tried it again now and the link to Alpine itself is broken ("cannot
contact server"). If the Honda site is similarly broken, I guess you will
have to wait. There is no link on the Alpine main page to get to the OEM
systems.

Main differences are: 1) The speaking voice is now deeper, 2) the database
format is somehow different and once you install it, you can't go back to
the old version, & 3) they have filled in missing streets in many previously
unmapped areas with "unverified" streets and roads.

Main complaint: The unverified stuff is great and solves a lot of mapping
problems, but when the car enters an unverified area, a big warning pop-up
appears that obliterates the screen and you can't get rid if it until it
finishes talking about it for several seconds. It already has warned you
when you picked the route that it would be going into unverified areas, so
the warning is redundant. The pop-up is a really bad idea, because it
forces you to acknowledge it while driving in order to see the map again,
but it won't let you get rid of it until it has also talked about it for
several seconds, which is an irritating distraction and potentially
dangerous.

Thanks for the reply. Just got home from a trip. I guess I will go
down to the Honda dealer and see what they know, and look at one of
the 2004's to see if I see the same thing you describe.

go to www.hondanavi.com; pricing, city coverage, & FAQs are there. Anyone
know how I can change the unknown PIN numbers for my new pre-owned Honda
with navi? (I'll also post the question as a question after I look more
for an "already posted" answer. So far no luck.

The easiest way is probably to go back to the person who sold it to you and
find out what they are. If it was a dealer, make them do it.

Just checked this site & got the following for an '03 Accord:

"Due to high demand, we are temporarily out of discs. We plan to have
them in the middle of October. Thank you for your interest.

Honda DVD NAVI DISC VER 3.30G $185 Qty 1"

$185!!!

That's even worse - destroy the $185 content!

it's burned on a prom chip. do you have the security code for it?
it's four digits long. if you have that, go into setup and look for
change pin. when it asks for the code enter the security code, that'll
wipe out their pin w/o knowing it.
