My friend has an 1987 CRX SI, he has a problem with cranking the car up. He
said when he cranks it over he has to hold the key cranked over for the engine to stay on, once he lets go it shuts off. He tried taking the carburator off and the car still did the same thing. What could be the problem? |

Ignition switch, without a doubt.

You might be able to get it to work for a short time with contact
cleaner etc., but a replacement is the long term cure. amsjsj wrote: > > so it needs to be replaced? > > "Randolph" <trash@junkmail.com> wrote in message > news:3FCC2B54.99594FC7@junkmail.com... > > Ignition switch, without a doubt. > > > > amsjsj wrote: > > > > > > My friend has an 1987 CRX SI, he has a problem with cranking the car up. > He > > > said when he cranks it over he has to hold the key cranked over for the > > > engine to stay on, once he lets go it shuts off. I'm not sure what the setup for the ballast is on that car, but a blown resistor will cause this problem. If the resistor is accessible, check for resistance across it. If it is completely open, replace it. Norm |
