Default 97 Civic Tranny issue

My wife's civic is having trouble starting in 1st. Here is a timeline
of what happenned to the car:

1. Front axles replaced (6 monthes ago)
2. Noticed tranny leak, replaced pass side axle seal. During leak ,
used some dexron iii to keep tranny from becoming dry. Drained and
used Honda fluid when seal was replaced.
3. Tranny now slips in 1st gear (about 2 weeks after seal
replacement)
4. Car will start off in 2nd if selector is moved to 2. Will slip if
you start in d3 or d4.

I had the codes read and it is coming up with 0715 code. Everything
obvious has been checked (sensors, fluid level etc). If anyone has had
the same experience, let me know what you found. I'm afraid the tranny
is shot, but any helpful inout is appreciated.

Thanks,
Todd
