Default 1999 Honda Accord clock light - EZ change

Just replaced the clock light on my 1999 Accord. Took all of 2
minutes!
The clock/flasher assembly pops out as one unit. You can use a
screwdriver but be careful not to scratch the dash. I opted for a 1
1/2" wide putty knife. Place tool in bottom middle of the
clock/flasher and apply SLIGHT upward pressure and the assembly pops
out. The light is on the right side when viewed from the front, left
side viewed from the rear. The round 3/16" diameter plastic head is
the bulb. Using a small screwdriver, turn 1/4 turn counter-clockwise
to remove. Install new bulb with 1/4 turn clockwise. Turn on
ignition switch to check for operation. (Light comes on with ignition
switch not headlights.)

Get the replacement bulb at your local dealer, part number
35505-S84-B02.
cost $3.19

I have two local Honda dealers, one quoted me $45 labor and the other
said the whole dash assembly needed to be removed, cost $80 labor!!!
Wonder why dealerships have a lousy reputation?

If you can change a lightbulb in your home, this has about the same
level of difficulty.

Thanks to all that replied - Easier than I ever imagined. Once you
know the trick, it's quite easy.

At first the bulb would turn, but it didn't come out easily. Since I
wasn't sure what I was looking for, I was initially hesitant whether it
was really the bulb, until you described it. That gave me confidence
to pry it a little harder with the screwdriver. It then freed very easily.

Thanks again to all. Saved me some $$.

That is interesting as the 99-04 service manual has you pull the whole dash
out. That is why the dealer is quoting what he is.....

I don't know what manual you're looking at, but it's certainly not a
Honda manual--because Honda changed the Accord to a brand-new, never
seen before platform for the 03 model year.

Any service manual that claims it's for the "99-04 Accord" is third
party, and is obviously junk.

Absurd. Take this to the bank: there is no genuine Honda documentation
anywhere that says to pull the dash to replace the clock light bulb in a
sixth-gen ('98-'02) Accord. I don't know what kind of squirrelly book
you're looking at, but it ain't genuine Honda. As another poster
pointed out, the year range includes two different generations--and they
couldn't even get *that* right, because '98 should be included in the
range as well.

REMINDER: Be sure to unplug the wiring harness from the clock module
first. I did not, when I was "helping" a friend. If you use a metal
screwdriver to unscrew the bulb, it will touch the metal leads on the
bulb and short it out.
Avoid this problem by simply taking a few extra seconds to unplug the
harness first.
Also, I obtained the same exact part # from West Broad Honda dealer in
Richmond; I call their toll free number, 800-446-0160, and they ship
to me in TN. On a 10/20/03 invoice, the list price shown is $1.52 and
they sold them to me for $1.11 @. Interesting your dealer charged you
twice the list price!
Where are you located? What dealer was it? I don't want to order from
them.

Cost me $2.14 - at a local RI Honda dealer.
