I have a 1992 Acura Legend and lately my speedometer has gone haywire
once in awhile for no apparent reason. The indicator speed just spins around back and forth and the D for Drive light flashes. Can anybody who owns Legend have any such problem and what is the cause? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Joni Mitchellson jony454@hotmail.com |

The flashing "D" is the transmission malfunction indicator, and it is
probably flashing because the transmission control module does not get a good speed signal. You can get trouble codes from the TCM to confirm this, Other posters have said that Autozone will read out those codes for free. I bet it will say VSS (vehicle speed sensor). Newer Honda's have the VSS on the tranny, some older ones used a conventional speedometer cable from the tranny to the instrument cluster and had an electronic VSS right at the speedometer (don't know if the speedometer was electronic or mechanical on those). Yours may be old enough to have the latter system. Check that the speedometer cable is connected properly at both the tranny and the instrument cluster side. Check that the speedometer gear drive at the tranny end is good.
