Hi all,
Before I begin, I'm not much of a techie when it comes to cars, so on the auto maintenance jargon, I rank a lowly 1/10 ! Here goes, I have a 92 honda accord lx 2d coupe, 109k miles (auto tranny..but plz no discussion on auto vs manual!). About 2 months ago, while I was driving, the D4 indicator starting flashing, and it seemed like the engine just wasn't getting enough power, but after about 10 secs, it became normal and i had an uneventful drive home. The next day i took it to my mechanic, he drove it around and the problem didnot manifest itself, and being a student, i didn't want fix something that wasn't broke. he made a superficial inspection of the tranny fluid, which was perfectly fine (i cheked that too) and nothing seemed to be wrong at the time. Then about a week after that, at startup, my D4 light would remain on for a couple of secs, flash once, and then go off and the car behaved normally (while driving). I thought about taking the car in, because postings on this group suggested something could be wrong with the TCU and that might need to be replaced. But after a day or two, the light stopped flashing and it behaved normally. This cycle of flashing d4 and normal behavior kept me away from the mechanic for the last 2 months. Then without a warning, last evening, the D4 light started flashing again, but this time after a few secs it stayed on permanently (irrespective of the gear I was in). Now while driving, it takes forever to change from 1st to 2nd, but after that it picks up like it used to and I was even able to crank it up to 60mph. But the initial pick up still continued to be a problem and the D4 light continues to remain on. Before I take it in to my mechanic, I want to be sure that hes not just going to make me get a new tranny, just because of my naivety. If anyone has any experiences/solutions with/for this scenario, PLEASE HELP ME! I'd like to keep the cost of this repair as low as possible! All help in this regard will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, praveen (syscop@hotmail.com) |

Quick question, does the speedo read correctly while this is
happening, or is it erratic? My bet would be the speed sensor on the trans. Fairly inexpensive and easily replaced part on the early 90's Accord. Hope that helps, Bill On 16 Nov 2003 13:19:16 -0800, syscop@hotmail.com (Praveen) wrote: >Hi all, > >Before I begin, I'm not much of a techie when it comes to cars, so on >the auto maintenance jargon, I rank a lowly 1/10 ! > >Here goes, I have a 92 honda accord lx 2d coupe, 109k miles (auto >tranny..but plz no discussion on auto vs manual!). > >About 2 months ago, while I was driving, the D4 indicator starting >flashing, and it seemed like the engine just wasn't getting enough >power, but after about 10 secs, it became normal and i had an >uneventful drive home. > >The next day i took it to my mechanic, he drove it around and the >problem didnot manifest itself, and being a student, i didn't want fix >something that wasn't broke. he made a superficial inspection of the >tranny fluid, which was perfectly fine (i cheked that too) and nothing >seemed to be wrong at the time. > >Then about a week after that, at startup, my D4 light would remain on >for a couple of secs, flash once, and then go off and the car behaved >normally (while driving). Thanks for replying.
The speedo reads correctly. The car is just very slow in picking up (feels that way too). So i guess the speed sensor is out. -Praveen "Bill Gibbs" <blackbelt@cogeco.ca> wrote in message news b8grvgg9viic44covtcj31mtlfks5qmj0@4ax.com...> Quick question, does the speedo read correctly while this is > happening, or is it erratic? Have you (or your mechanic) checked what code is in the computer when the D4
light flashes? "Praveen" <syscop@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:bp9fnr$rt7$1@news.tamu.edu... > Thanks for replying. > The speedo reads correctly. The car is just very slow in picking up (feels > that way too). > So i guess the speed sensor is out. > -Praveen > |

No.
Can someone tell me in layman's terms as to how I can find out the code myself? I guess getting the code information will be more helpful in debugging...(duh!), but I wasn't sure what was the safest way (for my car and me) to do it? -Praveen "Jafir Elkurd" <jafir@nospam.no.spam.hotpop.com> wrote in message news:vrgjfornce4m37@corp.supernews.com... > Have you (or your mechanic) checked what code is in the computer when the D4 > light flashes? > > "Praveen" <syscop@hotmail.com> wrote in message > news:bp9fnr$rt7$1@news.tamu.edu... > > Thanks for replying. > > The speedo reads correctly.
