Default High beams not staying on

My 90 Accord has developed an annoying problem.
Driving home at night I use my high-beams when driving through the rural
roads, of course shutting them off when another car is approaching. Lately,
after turning on and off the high beams a few times, the high-beams won't
stay on when the switch is pulled and relased. The switch will click, the
blue light on the dash lights up, as well as the high-beams, but as soon as
I relase the switch, they fail to stay on.
Is this a bad combination switch or maybe a faulty high-beam relay?
Also, after the car has been parked for a bit, the problem is gone for a
while.
Thanks.

If you're in Canada and have DRL (on a '90 Accord?) you could have two
or three relays to contend with. Tell us more about the circumstances:
mileage, history, does ambient temperature matter, etc?

Sounds like a mechanical problem with the combo switch. If it's a relay
problem it should turn off without releasing. I have problem with greases
used on many of the switch. Lack of or frozen up. Have it dismantled clean
up and apply new coat. Lack of greases shortens the life of the switch or
cause damages.

Canadian car, 245,000 km, temperature does not seem to matter...
Also when my parking brake is relased, the entire exterior lighting system
turns on, rotating the light switch only adds the dash lights to the mix. I
think maybe the previous owner may have had it wired this way, anyone ever
heard of a system like that?

It sounds like there's a ground connection missing from somewhere.

Are you in a 'high corrosion' area of Canada?

Sure, we get our share of salt on the roads, I'll look into that.
