I snapped a stud off on the front axle. I bought a 32mm socket for the
axle nut, but it won't budge. Is the left ( drivers side) axle nut a
left hand thread?

no. it is just as standard as any other nut.
try to torque first, then - untorque - with force and very fast.

otherwise, use an extension for your wrench or impact gun.
