Default 2003 Accord EX - outside temperature reading?

Hello -
I just bought an 03 Accord EX and I can't figure out how to make the dashboard
show the outside temperature. I've read the manual, don't seem to work.
Thanks!

On mine you touch the small button to the right of the odometer and it
toggles the display between various modes. The temperature display replaces
the total mileage indicator.

On ours the number is wrong more than it is right. The dealer claims this
is "normal" and gave some nonsense story about driving at least 20 minutes
at over 20mph and then the thing only changes 1 degree per minute. Almost
useless.

Yeah, mine's about useless as well. At least it seems to read
higher on warm days and lower on cooler days.

That's interesting. I think ours is dead on. Have compared it with
many other sources, including my home weather station. Always very
close. I like the fact that it doesn't rise in temperature when
sitting still like our Mercedes did.

Mine doesn't seen to take that long to stabilize, but it's almost
always 5-7° F. high. It's fairly consistent, so it's somewhat useful,
but it's the control of the compressor that worries me. If the
compressor is set to run during defrost as long as the outside
temperature is over 40°, then mine might be set to run all the way
down to freezing. Does anyone know if that's a correct deduction? (I
haven't had a chance to test it yet as the car is fairly new, and we
haven't had temps that low here yet.)

There is no danger in running the A/C with outside temperatures below
freezing as long as the evaporator does not freeze over. All A/C systems
have a thermostat at the evaporator that shuts off the A/C if the
evaporator gets too cold. On my '94 Civic this thermostat is set
somewhere between 3°C and 4°C.

My temp gauge seems pretty accurate and stable. I'm assuming it has
nothing to do with the A/C cutoffs since the temp guage is not
standard on all the models.

What did the dealer charge you to install this?

A thermistor has to be present on all models on which the AC runs
automatically in defrost mode. I assume that it DOES have something
to do with the AC cutoffs and that the only difference in models with
the outside temp display is that there is a dashboard readout of that
thermistor. There could be two different thermistors, but why would
they design it that way when one would suffice?

Mine works fine too. I compare it with an ordinary thermometer and
it's dead on.
