Default steering wheel is shaking in my prelude

After i rotated my tires on my 94 honda prelude vtec the steering
wheel shakes . It doesnt effect the steering of the car but it is
annoying and worries me. I went to an auto shop and they said that i
need two new back tires, i got them and it didn't fix anything. What
could it be?

If the steering wheel shakes, you have an out of balance front tire, an out
of round front tire, or some problem with the front suspension. Nothing in
the back can make the steering wheel shake. Problems in the rear will be
felt in your seat.

IME - Have the front tires balanced and check the rim(s) for any damage
(bent)... debris (caked on mud)

How's the wear on the (now) front tires? Anything unusual?

Rotate the tires once again (putting the new ones up front). Do the symptoms
disappear?

An out of balance rear tire *will* behave differently up front...

Good luck!

Rick

Default Re: steering wheel is shaking in my prelude

Once upon a time I had rear wheels horribly disbalanced, which caused the
whole body to shake, which caused steering wheel to bounce as well. It was
just nasty.
But it would be obvious for Kevin, I think, if rears in his case are super
bad.

on overall, rears shouldn't cause steering wheel to jump in your tighty
hands ;-). Yeah, I agree - check balance on fronts and suspension as well,
don't forget to check your front rotors for warpage (disbalancing) -
shouldn't be your case, though, 'cause you ONLY messed up with rotation, and
don't have problems with braking (well, you will notice if they are warped).

It is pretty weird problem, though.
