Hi, I have an 87 Accord, auto transmission, LX-i. When I slow down I
hear a clunk from the rear end at about 15 mph. Once in a while, when I accelerate slowly, it clunks at about 25 mph. Had some work done on the car last month & mentioned this to the mechanic. He said the only think he could see was a loose pipe in the exhaust system, which he tightened. But the noise is still occurring. Any thoughts as to what it could be? (Transmission? I hope not!) I will probably take it to the dealership for a diagnosis but wanted to get some input before they tell me about the big $$$ they think it will take to fix it. Thanks! Sara |

Are you sure it is from there rear? If so it could very likely be rear
upper arm ball joints. Also, after enough years it could be trailing arm bushings, but that isn't as common on that accord as it is on civics and integras. My upper arm is bad but it makes a single click when I step on the brake. If
your noise is linked to certain road speeds it's got to be in the transmission, except then it couldn't be coming from the rear in this front wheel drive car. |
