I'm about to replace my front disc pads on my Honda CrV 99'.
Is there a qualitative difference between a 'Known Top of the Line' Premium brand versus the Honda OEM Brake Pads. I've heard Honda is good, just don't know if their competitors make an equal , better or lesser product at the High End??? BTW, I've gotten 60K miles off these pads on a manual transmission -- downshifting lightens the braking load. So I've done well with the Honda OEM pads!! My beer drinking friend across the street who can barely change his own oil and has the Dealer do all his maintenance and repairs has already told me to stick with the Dealer Honda pads. --- so that exact tidbit of knowledge based upon really no experience, and TV/Advertising influenced Consumer Sentiment has already been given. |

At one point I had replaced the pads on my 2000 Odyssey with aftermarket pads. After about a year of trying to quiet the grinding and squealing, I gave in and bought the Honda pads. I got them from hparts.com (888-894-6632) and they didn't cost me much more than aftermarket. They came with the anti-vibration shims and grease to put on the back. The new pads do not make noise. I've been really happy with them and (as long as hparts.com is around) I will likely never buy after market pads again. Randy |

Note to Canadian readers, Honda Canada does NOT supply shims or grease with the pads. They must be purchased separately. -- TeGGeR® |

I replaced my front brake pads a few years back on my Honda Civic '95
DX with the cheapest autozone pads. They gave me the anti-squeal compound too-- and it's worked fine. I guess that was 3 years back-- they've still got a bit left in them and there's been no squeal or anything. (although recently i've started hearing the faintest of squeals but i think it may be my rear drum brakes-- haven't looked at them in the 5 years i've had the car) -mr speck. kneeloswirl@yahoo.com (Stempis Rhubank) wrote in message news:<8451e48c.0310191352.24fe1743@posting.google. com>... > I'm about to replace my front disc pads on my Honda CrV 99'. > > Is there a qualitative difference between a 'Known Top of the Line' > Premium brand versus the Honda OEM Brake Pads. > > I've heard Honda is good, just don't know if their competitors make > an equal , better or lesser product at the High End??? > > BTW, I've gotten 60K miles off these pads on a manual transmission > -- downshifting lightens the braking load. > So I've done well with the Honda OEM pads!! > > > > > My beer drinking friend across the street who can barely change his > own oil and has the Dealer do all his maintenance and repairs has > already told me to > stick with the Dealer Honda pads. > > --- so that exact tidbit of knowledge > based upon really no experience, and TV/Advertising influenced > Consumer Sentiment has already been given. |

Every single set of OEM pads I've ever bought in twelve years for my '91 'Teg has come bare-bones. Pads only. Nothing else. Shims are about ten bucks each. -- TeGGeR® |

He says that some models come with shims/grease and some don't. My '91 Integra just happens to be one of those that doesn't. Some models originally had them, but they were eventually removed to lower the cost of the pad set. -- TeGGeR® |
