I got a 2001 Civic LX manual. I like in New England. I've got 32k on the
OEM Firestone FR690 tires which I cannot stand anymore. They suck big time, I don't remember them being so bad at the beginning, but not I feel unsafe to drive. When it rains I cannot brake properly and I have to push the gas pedal *realy* gently when the light turn green, otherwise the front wheels slip and it makes this horible noise... I don't want to get winter wires. I am too lazy to change tires. I need al season, with stelar performance in rain and more than decent persormance in snow. The Michelis Hydroedge get 8 in winter and 10 for wet traction and tread wear. I am not impressed with their warranty (85k), I would be happy if I get a decent 50k out of them. As I said, safety is paramount, price and longevity thread wear is not an issue. Any advice is appreciated. The hydroedge are new and couldn't find a lot of reviews (and I googled by the way!) The reviews at tirerack all looked good. Thanks |

I'd recommend Dunlop SP Sport A2!
Any tire with >40k warranty looks very suspicious for me. You definitely don't want plastic tires, do you? /Alex ----== Posted via Newsfeed.Com - Unlimited-Uncensored-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeed.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! >100,000 Newsgroups ---= 19 East/West-Coast Specialized Servers - Total Privacy via Encryption =--- |

I've had good luck with Michelins, though some in this group don't seem to like them. They are expensive. The Hydroedge is a new tire, right? I'm curious about this thread to as I'll be in the market for tires for my Camry soon. I find it interesting that they have such a long warranty, but still score so highly on wet and winter traction. I always assumed that there was a tradeoff there. |

I had terrible tires on my 02 CR-V, and I dump them after 12K miles. I
ordered a set of Hydroedge. After the rainstorms we had in the last few days it was awesome. Is not very quiet (better than the Bridgestone) but not a whole lot. I don't care about the noise, but I want a good grip on rain, and this tires are great. Is it going to last 80K miles? I don't know, I will let you know in about 4 years, but I am happy with them. Yes, it is expensive, I spend 540 for all 4 at discount tire but hopefully will last and a lot safer. You mean "Michelin"? (sp) Tires can get 85K+ but probably with
lousy wet/snow traction. A friend had a '56 Volvo PV-551 2-door (in trade) in '62 with pre-Indochina war Michelins, made with "real" rubber. They had 90K original miles and were barely worn. The "story" is that when the French lost Indochina and their rubber plantations, synthetic rubber (from petrochemicals) was the $alternative$. Synthetic rubber won't wear as well as natural rubber but won't "rot" as easily either. For sheer mileage: natural rubber. For sheer time: synthetic. The obvious is that modern tires are a compromise between the two desires. I won't even speculate the "Man In The White Suit" hypotheses. I drove on them 2 summers so far ( 20000km) and will dump them next spring. I don't know what I'm gonna get yet. Anyway, right now it is about time to put back my snow/ice tires. |

TOYO Touring Spectrum. Stick like glue, wear well, good stuff. -- "We should not march into Baghdad. To occupy Iraq would instantly shatter our coalition, turning the whole Arab world against us and make a broken tyrant into a latter- day Arab hero. Assigning young soldiers to a fruitless hunt for a securely entrenched dictator and condemning them to fight in what would be an unwinable urban guerilla war, it could only plunge that part of the world into ever greater instability." -George H. Will keep an eye on this group tonight and tomorrow before I decide what to buy though. Thanks all for your input, it is needed since I have no clue about tires... |
