For the past couple of months, my '94 Accord EX (120,000 K miles) is pinging
when I lay off acceleration at 30 to 40 mph. No problem under accleration, only when maintaining speed. Oil change is recent, plugs are in good shape, valve clearance adjustment in last 5K miles. Using 92 octane helps but is not a long term solution. Should I look at the timing, EGR ports? Thanks. |

Thanks. ---------------- Carl, Try going down a long hill, with engine doing the braking, at high revs. For an auto tranny, you'll have to set the shifter into D2 or D3, depending on the speed limit and grade. Make sure engine is hot, and listen for backfiring (note if it's intake or exhaust) and have a friend follow behind to check for smoke and smell, especially when you reach the bottom and punch the accelerator. Bad intake or exhaust valves will manifest themselves, as will bad rings. I'm thinking a compression test and checking your cam timing, might be in order, depending on what you find with the downhill test. Your timing belt may have jumped out a notch or two. Let us know what you find . . . . . 'Curly' ------------------ To REPLY: If there are a couple of underscores in my return address, you must remove them to reply directly . . . . . . Thanks. Regarding stage performances: When everyone else has finished playing, you should not play any notes you have left over. - |

Thanks. ---------------------- Carl, P.S. Have you checked to see if your radiator fan(s) are cutting in even when the air conditioning isn't in use? 'Curly' --------------------- |
