Default Quieter? Accord or Camry?

Which car is quieter?

An Accord...or a Camry?

If I ask someone who works in a dealership, they will, no doubt, tell me
that *their* car is quieter....

But I am wondering if there is an unbias source out there , some rating or
index...that can settle the question once and for all.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Whats your experience?

Thanks!

M

Traditionally I've found the Camry's quieter (I have an accord), but haven't
compared the newer models.

Camry. That's their goal, after all. Luxury and quiet.

Accord is more sporty.

Even a staunch Honda supporter will tell you the Camry is quieter, however
the Accord beats it in other areas, if your main requirement is a quiet
cabin (especially at speed) choose the Toyota.

I too have found the cabin quieter. But, I found the engine noise louder in
a Camry. The handling is better in an Accord. I prefer Honda engineering
over Toys. Reliability has dropped to average on the newer models of Camry
according to consumer reports, while the Accord is still excellent.

Just my 2 cents

If I truly wanted to know the answer to this, I would go to someplace
like the Consumers Report website and look at the road test data. That
would take the subjectivity out of the "mine is better than yours" a
dealer or salesguy would have.

I just looked it up on their website (I subscribe) and noted Accord
and Camry (both 4 cyl) scored the same, with no difference in the Trim
lines. The both hit the "better than average" (number 4 out of 5)in
the Noise category. What ever that means. It would have been better if
there was a decibel level number for the same road surface, but that
isn't what they did.

My 2003 Element only got 3 our of five, and I can tell you I consider
it a Noisy ride, depending on the road. Blacktop is OK, but concrete
is LOUD!

Fweem on.

You may want to visit a library that has back issues of magazines like
"Car and Driver" and "Motor Trend". Look for reviews of the Accord and
Camry and determine if sound or noise or decibal (spelling??) levels are
mentioned in the reviews. I believe other factors such as quality of
workmanship should also be considered in your research. I believe the
reviews will show that the Accord is superior to the Cambry in quality of
workmanship.

Consider the illiterate source of the above comment.

It has been observation that the wind noise and engine noise are much
lower in Camrys. When sitting in a friend's parked and idling Camry, I
couldn't even hear the engine. My Accord is much noisier.

Yup.

You'll also notice that you can't tell when the A/C compressor kicks in
on the Camry.

So much of this has to do with the basic platform being required for
Lexus duty. Lexus takes things seriously. Honda, on the other hand,
doesn't place their Acura products as high as Toyota places the Lexus
products. So, Honda platforms that are to be shared with Acura really
don't get the same treatment as Toyota platforms that are destined to be
shared with Lexus.
