I'm not sure you will get a fair answer here either since Honda
newsgroups will favor Honda and Toyota groups will favor Toyota. I think it's best you do your own research on websites. Try doing a google search for decibels in cars and hopefully you will find some useful info. Aside from the noise tho, I think you should ask yourself which car will better suit your needs. >On Sun, 14 Sep 2003 17:05:03 GMT, "Myself" <Me@My.Computer> wrote: >Which car is quieter? > >An Accord...or a Camry? > >If I ask someone who works in a dealership, they will, no doubt, tell me >that *their* car is quieter.... > >But I am wondering if there is an unbias source out there , some rating or >index...that can settle the question once and for all. > >Any thoughts or ideas? > >Whats your experience? > >Thanks! > >M > ** remove .invalid from my email address to reply by email ** |

I own an Accord, The Camry's have less road and wind noise, IMHO.

We are on our 4th Accord. The current one being a 2003 EX V6. The
only Toyotas I have ridden in lately are the Avalons, a step up from the Camry. While both are fine cars, the Toyota has always been known as the Japanese Buick, while the Accord is more of an inexpensive BMW. I may have the comparison off a little, but you get the general idea. The Camry is the soft, cushy, quiet Buick-type car, while the Accord is the more responsive, more agile, better performing car with more sporting characteristics. And not as quiet, although the 2003, except for tire noise, is a very quiet car compared to earlier generations. The Honda engineers have really quieted the V-6 down from earlier versions when under accelerations. The evidence here is to the contrary since most people are opining that the Camry is quieter. > I think it's best you do your own research on websites. Try doing a >google search for decibels in cars and hopefully you will find some >useful info. Consumer Reports has rated the Accord and the Camry in the same issue more than once, and they report that the Camry is, indeed, quieter. Road noise is important to me, so I paid careful attention to that during my test drives. My conclusion was that even though the Camry might have been a little quieter, the road noise in the Accord was not at all objectionable. In fact, I thought it was pretty quiet. I chose the Accord, and I've been pretty happy with it. I can hear stuff under the hood like the power-steering pump and the AC compressor, though. >Aside from the noise tho, I think you should ask yourself which car >will better suit your needs. > > > > > >>On Sun, 14 Sep 2003 17:05:03 GMT, "Myself" <Me@My.Computer> wrote: > >>Which car is quieter? >> >>An Accord...or a Camry? >> >>If I ask someone who works in a dealership, they will, no doubt, tell me >>that *their* car is quieter.... >> >>But I am wondering if there is an unbias source out there , some rating or >>index...that can settle the question once and for all. >> >>Any thoughts or ideas? >> >>Whats your experience? >> >>Thanks! >> >>M >> > > > > ** remove .invalid from my email address to reply by email ** > > > > Ron |

Circa 1995 I took a test drive in a Camry V6. The sales person told me it was way quieter than the Camry 4 and the Honda 3. And so it was -- until I realized the air vent fan was off! When I turned it on to the second lowest speed I realized that it made the car way noisier than my 91 or 93 Honda's!!!! The Camry fan was *way* louder than the Accord's! Is this still the case? A test "drive" at rest with a Radio Shack db meter should be useful. Someone should check this out: pay a few thousand for a V6 when the fan is loud? LRM |

Jees. Here's an idea - test drive them and make your own conclusion. |
