Finding a new mirror assembly was easy enough, but it's black and
would need to be painted to match my car. Would it be easy to remove
the glass portion from the new mirror assembly and put it into the
old assembly?

You can buy a replacement mirror to put on your existing mirror
assembly for like $6 or so. Was there any damage to the paint of the
mirror? If it was minor I would just touch it up with touch up paint,

Minor scuffing that I can live with. Do you have a link to where I
might buy just the mirror? My searching so far yields just the
entire assembly.
