My 95 Civic with 115,000 miles has a problem that I've recently been
experiencing. When shifting say from first to second, I'll let up off the clutch and instead of proceeded to go, there is a whirling sound and the vehicle acts like it's in neutral. If I press the clutch again and move the stick a touch, it goes into gear. This doesn't happen every time I shift, maybe once or twice a trip (say 30 miles). The shifting is a bit more difficult too, but that could be from age I suppose. Before it was crisp and you would know you were in the next gear, but now I feel I have to use more force. Can anyone explain what is going on and how much $$$ I'll have to come up with. THanks. |

First test the clutch. Depress and hold the clutch in. Tap the gas pedal to rev the engine a bit. Now try to slowly shift into reverse. It shouldn't grind the gears. If it does, the clutch isn't fully disengaging. Some other things to check - replace the gear oil with Honda's, check the bushings where the shifting rods meet the gearbox, and check the mechanisms under the shifting lever. |

First thing to do would to flush the tranmission oil. Drive it for a
bit, and then flush it again. Pars 98 Hatch svadas wrote: > > My 95 Civic with 115,000 miles has a problem that I've recently been > experiencing.
