Default Performance Increase w/ Auto. Transmission

Just bought a '00 Civic DX to use as daily driver. It came with the "Value Package" which includes the automatic transmission.

It runs great, but needs a little more in the ooomph department, particularly in accelerating.

Any suggestions on engine tweaks that will help? I live in Virginia near Washington DC, and you typically need to drive at 75-80mph on the Interstates just to keep up.

Thanks.

Imo, auto = trash. No amount of power increase can remove the lack of
fun from an auto.

Yes, auto is trash. I drive a friend's Lexus GS 400 with auto/fake
manual. I'm driving it at the moment. I don't like it much. It's much
more fun in my 92 Civic with a stick. Certain lane changes require
precise gearing at the precise moment, which auto can't provide. Most
people can't even drive decently, so I wouldn't comment about their
purchases.

If your lane changes require timing of that precision, you are taking
unnneccessary risks with other people's health and property.

stay in stick mode all the time i'd go crazy. somedays
you just wanna sit back and cruise.

I find it far safer to drive around people who drive agressively and
know their limits than around people who do sloppy lane changes, don't
use their turn signals, and wouldn't know what to do if their back end
started sliding.

As do we all.
I can't for the life of me see what that has to do with the manual/automatic
transmission discussion, though.

I felt the need to respond to his (IMHO) ignorant statement about
agressive drivers. Sorry, no more OT's for me in this thread :-)
