Mark,
You should replace the distributor cap, not scrape the oxide off the
aluminum terminals. You now have 5 times more gap inside your cap than
you do at your plugs. Although that aluminum oxide was white and crusty,
it still conducted better than AIR . . . .
But ain't it HARD to find good caps with brass connectors that aren't
too expensive ? ? ? ?

But car runs perfectly when hot, and it starts perfectly when hot
so my guess is distributor is ok.
