Any advice? What you appear to be "missing" is that there are two switches - the one you are talking about which is released as soon as you move the pedal is the interlock for the cruise control. The other switch is pressed in by a pressure pad on the pedal only when the pedal is fully pressed to the floor and is the interlock for the starter.
