With that many miles, it is possible what the timing belt has slipped a few
teeth. It would be a very good idea to replace the belt to avoid costly engine damage. It is possible that the belt has been replaced but the other owner doesn't know or recall. They may have had a waterpump fail, and got a new belt at that time. The 50,000 mile change is a bit on the low side. (I would question why your mechanic wants all of your money) Usually Hondas of that age require a timing belt ever 90,000 miles or every 60,000 under extreme climates. A good, honest mechanic won't try to get your money buy selling you something you don't need. He'll do a job for you right, and you'll came back when you do need something. (but you are on borrowed time on that belt.... and you should have it replaced) "Anna" <anna577@yahoo.com> wrote in message news:77f42388.0307221331.17c1dd2c@posting.google.c om... > I have a 93 Honda Civic hatchback, 169,000 miles. > > On the highway, it won't accelerate above 40mph.
