Default 2001 Honda Air Conditioner Filters Replacement (other years, too)

How to replace 2001 Honda Accord air conditioner filters:

The filters are located in a housing behind and below the glove box.

1. Open the (front) passenger door.
2. Locate the fuse box cover near the door jam and remove it.
3. Locate (2) screws, now exposed, that secure the lower dash cover
(directly under the glove box) and using a #2 Philips screwdriver,
remove the screws.
4. Remove the lower dash cover by carefully pulling on its edges.
NOTE: The cover is held by several ‘clips' on the cover that have been
pressed into the metal dash framing. This may take patience!
5. Locate a screw securing the bottom of the glove box on the outside
bottom edge, in the center. Using a #2 Philips screwdriver, remove it.
6. Open the glove box door.
7. Using a #2 Philips screwdriver, remove (2) screws next to the glove
box door catch (metal loop) inside the box on the backside near the
top.
8. Using a small flat blade screwdriver, pry the (2) ½" x ¾" plastic
screw covers off, located on the left and right side of the inside of
the box near the top. Using a #2 Philips screwdriver, remove the
exposed screws.
9. The glove box can now be removed from the dash. Carefully pull the
box upand out of the dash. This may take patience!
10. You will now see (2) metal braces (about 1 ½" wide) mounted
horizontally. Using a #2 Philips screwdriver, remove screws securing
both ends of each brace and set these braces aside.
11. Now you have access to the filter housing cover. It is a plastic
snap-on type cover about 1 ½" wide, mounted vertically on the filter
housing. Remove it by prying down on the catch at the bottom of the
cover.
12. The (2) white air filters can now be removed. Each of the filters
are in white plastic ‘frames'. Remove the old filters from these
frames, place new filters into the frames and place the filter
‘frames' back into the filter housing.
13. Reassemble the glove box and dash by reversing steps 10 through 1.

There's a third screw on the upper left corner of that panel; it's
hidden beneath another pop-out trim piece directly underneath the radio.
If you don't take that screw out, you'll break the trim piece. You'll
know what I'm talking about when you follow the base directions and
can't seem to get the panel off.

The good news: that trim panel goes back on just fine even if you break
that screwed-in corner off. Better news: that panel is only $40 to
replace.
