Hi everyone,


When I start my Civic (Civic LX '97, engine D16Y7, 58K miles) in the
morning, I can hear distinct "knocking" coming from the engine. After about
10 minutes of driving I'd pull over and wouldn't hear the knocking any more.

About a month ago, I poured a bottle of Chevron fuel system cleaner
(http://shop.store.yahoo.com/rodi/ch65740t.html) to clean up possible
deposits on valves, injectors, etc. Also, a week ago I changed the spark
plugs, and four were in perfect shape in the sense they were all worn out
evenly, there were no signs of corrosion or oil or any evil-looking
deposits, which looked to me like there was nothing escaping or leaking
through the piston rings, no backfiring, and so forth.

Can anyone advise what this knocking might be related to in this situation?

Vey well migth be. Btw, I found a pretty good article about it at
http://www.canadiandriver.com/articles/jk/020320.htm . Here's an excerpt:

"The correct engine oil can help reduce slap. Good oil takes up some
clearance and is not easily scraped off the cylinder wall during cold
starts. Sometimes, changing oil brands or viscosity can reduce a cold start
piston slap."

Assuming this is only piston slap I'm dealing with, should I try a different
oil brand? What brand/viscosity would you, guys, recommend?
