Bought one after years of reading good reports in Consumers.
Own two Windstars now....test drove Dodge. Cant say I didnt do my homework but after a few weeks of driving there a couple things I like and dont like. Like: Exremely quite engine and ride. Solid feel, handles very well. rear seat recessed into floor. Price seemed to be about same as Dodge Grand equivalent. Dont Like A/C is wimpy.....long time for air to get cold and cool down cab. Not many inside amenities.....passenger controlled air etc. Doors dont lock automatically when start driving. No leather on steering wheel. Turn ratio to large of steering wheel ....To much steering wheel turn for radius Parking Brake doesnt retract automatically when put in drive. Side doors dont open if transmission no in park. Seats not great....need more support on sides of legs..too too flat seat. Center fold down table...would like console. Cup holders in dash are not adjustable for large cups. No data display: No outside air temp measurement, No mileage, No compass, what is full auto vs auto on climate control? Like to hear you thoughts. What $ can I get for a Odyssey with 1200 miles on it? Thanks |

In fact, according to a Honda mechanic friend of mine, Honda solved their A/C issues starting with the 98 Accord (I don't know if this follows for the Civic-based vehicles). And in fact, I have an 00 Accord that blows so cold, I have to turn it down--a first for Honda. > Not many inside amenities.....passenger controlled air etc. Welcome to Honda. That's just their style, is all. They don't do a lot of packages, a lot of goodies, etc, etc. In fact, they try their best to standardize things across the board, to reduce costs. You'll see a lot of things being used in all Hondas, from the Accord LX to the Acura RL. > Doors dont lock automatically when start driving. Makes perfect sense to me. > What $ can I get for a Odyssey with 1200 miles on it? I'll give you $20K for it. |

It's one of those things that Chrysler puts into their vans to make you forget that you've bought a Chrysler. At least the passenger can control his own temperature while waiting for the tow truck. |

LOL .. It amazes me what some people find important. "Sure my car is
unsafe and will only last a few years but at least it's got an adjustable cup holder and two heat knobs." "Elmo P. Two out of three of these are very important and you forgot to mention efficient and safe. But also, look how trivial the things that you do not like. Any other car is going to be the opposite. All fancy little things but it will lack in the most important things. > Dont Like > A/C is wimpy.....long time for air to get cold and cool down cab. No problems on our AC. Safety. makes sense. Not "off" until YOU take it off. > Side doors dont open if transmission no in park. Safety feature. I have hit those door buttons several times while driving. Can't tell you how nervous I was just thinking about them opening up while driving down the road at 50 mph. Only makes sense. > Seats not great....need more support on sides of legs..too too flat seat. The problem with selling a Ody with that many miles is that the car holds it's value so well that they are similarly priced to the new ones and almost everyone will opt for the new. So the seller ends up lowering the price below its value and loosing money just to try and sell. > > Thanks > > |

I was musing over this, and it occurred to me: many people, my wife included, seem to think that if the A/C is on it must be blowing arctic cold air all the time. A/C is an on/off proposition to these people. But with the Honda automatic climate control, I've discovered that it's not that way. Set the dial to 72, and you know what the Honda blows out the vents? Air set to a moderate temperature, to maintain that 72 degrees. Sure, initially it will blow cold (or hot, as needed) to get the temperature to that level; as the target temperature is being approached it will moderate the temperature, while blowing the fan at high speed; then, as the target temperature is reached, it will keep blowing the moderate temperature air at low fan speeds. When sun hits the windshield, the fan speed will increase and the temperature MAY change, depending on how low you've set the dial. So those who think that their Odysseys aren't blowing cold air, are probably all EX owners with auto climate control--and Honda's way of doing auto climate control is different than they expect. It's not that it can't do it; it's that it behaves differently, that's all. To solve this problem, set the dial all the way down to 60. According to the owner's manual, this will set the A/C to a manual mode like you're used to; it will blow the coldest air possible. Then turn the fan to a speed that's to your liking. Voila--manual climate control. And you'll see that the Odyssey can blow meat-locker cold air, no problem. |

Lessee if I have this right ..
You complain that "Doors dont lock automatically when start driving" and then a little bit later you complain that "Side doors dont open if transmission no in park". So, you want the doors to lock while in "drive", but the doors still should be able to open? Huh? I am glad that you are not working for Honda or my Odyssey might slip into reverse when I put the emergency brake on. --Monty Visit the last oasis of sanity in Cyberspace: www.sanitypages.com "JASONST" <JASONST@AOL.COM> wrote in message news:HI52sB.BKD@news.boeing.com... > Bought one after years of reading good reports in Consumers. > Own two Windstars now....test drove Dodge. > > Cant say I didnt do my homework but after a few weeks of driving there a > couple things I like and dont like. > > Like: > Exremely quite engine and ride. > Solid feel, handles very well. > rear seat recessed into floor. > Price seemed to be about same as Dodge Grand equivalent. > > Dont Like > A/C is wimpy.....long time for air to get cold and cool down cab. > Not many inside amenities.....passenger controlled air etc. > Doors dont lock automatically when start driving. > No leather on steering wheel. > Turn ratio to large of steering wheel ....To much steering wheel turn for > radius > Parking Brake doesnt retract automatically when put in drive. > Side doors dont open if transmission no in park. > Seats not great....need more support on sides of legs..too too flat seat. > Center fold down table...would like console. > Cup holders in dash are not adjustable for large cups. > No data display: > No outside air temp measurement, > No mileage, No compass, > what is full auto vs auto on climate control? > > Like to hear you thoughts. > What $ can I get for a Odyssey with 1200 miles on it? > > Thanks > > |
