I agree that the Chevy looks like the current Astra but the the Cavalier
shape is more reminiscent of the original Vauxhall Cavalier (goes back to
the late 70s), which had no exact Opel counterpart. It actually looked more
sporty than the Opel (the Vectra predecessor, Rekord?), as it had the front
of an Opel Manta (no jokes from Germany, please!). I had one. Mine was an
early model that was made, oddly, in Genk, Belgium. When production of the
Cavalier moved to Britain the quality ostensibly dropped.

I had fun once driving into an Opel service station in Germany. The
technicians gauped but managed to fix it as the innards were much like an
Opel.
