$350.00 Cdn for "Type 4 scheduled warranty maintenance"? This is
ridiculous. What the hell is the warranty even for If I'm dumping another
$600-$700 a year into it to "maintain" the warranty? Does anyone have any
information on what maintenance is actually legally required beyond oil
changes in order to maintain the warranty? I'm not paying $350 for them to
check to see if my lights are working, my doors open and close, and to lube
this and grease that. I feel like I'm the one who needs the lube...

Then do it yourself.

You don't NEED to get the dealership to do it, but you DO need
documentation or some affirmative proof that you did indeed service the car
according to the approved maintenance schedule.

What's "legally" required is that you follow the approved maintenance
schedule which is in your Owner's Manual. You do have that document, do you
not? If not, you can obtain a new one from your friendly local dealership.

Maybe not.

If it's a "shady" 3rd party warranty, it may have certain contractual
stipulations that the owner must follow in order for the warranty to remain
intact.

The O.P. didn't specify if he is talking about the factory warranty, or
extended (either Honda Care or aftermarket).

Most dealers have their own maintenance schedules which go way beyond
the actual documented factory requirements in order to boost their
service profits.

If you are not going to do-it-yourself, then the next best thing is to
find a good independent Honda specialist in your area and entrust the
care of your vehicle to them. Make sure to ask that only the required
maintenance items be done per your owners manual. The information on
what is required is all right there in that little book which came with
your car. Since you are in Canada, Honda says to follow the severe
service schedule.

Thanks. Helpful except for the "little book" comment, but I probably
deserved that. Got home last night to a 2K Visa bill and something from
the Honda dealership offering me a $350 "coupon" for "required" type 4
service. Wasn't in a good mood when I posted.

IMO, the scheduled maintance is overkill. I did all the oil changes on
my Honda every 6K km and only did the major services (i.e. 48K, 96K) at
the dealer or certified mechanic (didn't bother with all the other
services in between). Never had a problem with my car.

I completely agree. Unfortunately, I paid for a warranty with the vehicle
and it appears that if I want to keep it useable I have to pay for it's full
4 years. I don't anticipate any issues, but if I had one and they tell me,
"You're not covered cause we didn't check to see if your headlights work in
year 3" I might have to kill someone on the spot.

I wish you could buy these things price discounted with no warranty at all.
I would take my chances.

I consider my extended warranty (which I bought because my wife drives our
Odyssey and I'm not always available) as a sort of catastrophe insurance.
Paying a few bucks for regular maintenance is a small price if it prevents
major damage. But if something huge happens (like the tranny going out)
then I'm covered (minus the $50 deductible).
Of course, right after I bought the extended warranty, Honda extended the
regular warranty for the tranny to 7 years/100K miles.
