Default Civic horsepower sucks

Comparable subcompacts far outrank Civic when it comes to performance.
When is Honda getting its act together? Some of the competition Dodge
SRX, Saturn Red Line, Subaru have 200+ hp.

The Acura RSX Type S also has over 200 hp.

you dumb azz!?!... that's like saying that the accord sucks when compared to
an STI. Look in the same price range to be accurate. Now that said... yes
they still suck. If you stay in the <$17k range, I think the Mazda 3 is the
king right now.

The only Subaru near that price range is the Impreza (base model), with
something like 165 hp. The Saturn Ion Red Line is around 20k. For power
just over 20k, the Neon SRT-4 blows everyone away performance wise.

People are funny, they will buy build quality over horsepower quantity,
hence the Civic popularity.

The Civic is not a performance car. It is a well built fuel efficient
transportation appliance. As such, it performs quite well actually. My '88
Civic with 232,000 miles still gets 38-40 mpg on the freeway.

Given the burst of negative messages you posted yesterday, maybe you would
be happier ignoring Hondas altogether. Since you apparently have had
personal grief with Hondas I won't suggest you are a troll, but these posts
are not very helpful.

On your topic, many of us don't want maximum power. The last car I bought
was a Toyota Prius, with only 100 horses. That's plenty for the way my wife
and I drive. We wouldn't even have looked at the Civic if it had 200 hp -
and that's just the market niche Honda seems to have chosen for it.

Mike

Most of them are buying slushboxes,so it really doesn't matter.

Default cheapo *exhaust manifold ( Re: Civic horsepower sucks )

Honda fits only short ( 4 into 1 pipe ), cheap & heavy cast iron * for its
engines <2.2 litre, even a F22A's *'s twin pipes are short. Result is
lower though adequate torque @ low rpm ( as during buyers' test drives )
, but very low ( <˝ as much ) torque & mpg @ high ( >3000 ) rpm, this
differece rises with rpm. http://circletrack.com/techarticles/73598
My local-made 4-2-1 * [i] uses aluminised mild steel [ii] 13 kg < my
F20A's original * [iii] has longer twin pipes than a F22A's *.
In 6-02 I saw a new Civic vtec 1.6 litre engine with very short * : a waste
of vtec ( no way is torque / mpg esp @ high rpm maximised ).
Many car makers ( incl Nissan in Sunny 130Y, Hyundai in Sonata 2.4,
Proton in Waja 1.8 ) save on *, because 99.9% buyers don't test drive on
highways, or know / experienced a difference between short & long *.

My F22 EX-R manifold is tubular steel, and factory stock.

Eric,
What a great statement you've made: a "well-built transportation appliance."
Over the last 22 years- I've had five Civics, and currently own a 2000 CX
hb. I have sold the others to family & friends, and all but the 1976 model
are still on the road humming away! I sold the '88 hb to my cousin, and it
has 350 000 miles on it!
For its designed purpose- the Civic is a near perfect, flawless vehicle.

I just purchased my first Honda Civic (EX SE) and I must say that the
quality is awesome. I enjoy my Civic much more than the Mini Cooper I sold.
