I have a 1995 Honda Accord EX. This morning, the driver's power window
would not roll down. The other three windows worked. I have never had a problem with this window before. It was not slow prior to this morning's problem. It has the auto down feature. Any suggestions on how to diagnose the problem? Is there/where is a fuse, a relay, an electronic control unit for auto down, etc? Is there a common part that fails? Thanks, John |

Thanks, John > The test is simple enough; look for voltage at the connector for the motor. However, it is worth a try to spray the edges of the window where the weatherstrip contacts with silicone spray. With the door open, clasp the window between your hands and try to shake it in the channel a bit, then see if any joy. Still no go? You can try running a card or similar around the window between the glass and the weatherstrip. Easy to try, anyway. My daughter's '93 died in mid-travel, and the problem was the motor. The motor is integral with the regulator, so I had to replace the whole shebang. The dealer wanted $225 or so for it, but the local wrecking yard (they pull and test) sold me one for $75 and it has been good the last three years. Replacement as a DIY project is in the same league as a brake job. The motor failed because a plastic worm gear inside the housing rode up on the plastic gear it was supposed to drive, jamming the motor. I tried just unjamming it and reassembling, but that worked until the window got into the same position. Mike |

Thanks, John Could be several things. When you press the switch, do you still hear a relay click? If not, the problem is probably electrical and may be a fuse although not too likely since the other windows work. If the relay does click, most likely there is a problem with the regulator. Just went through this with my wife's non-Honda van, the power window cables frayed and twisted around the plastic spindle causing it to break. |

I am looking at a '85 Prelude wiring diagram. It shows 4 wires to the
drivers window. a red/blu and a red/yel to the motor and a blu and black (ground) to a pulser in the motor. W/D shows 3 fuses for the power windows so check all three fuses. If you have removed the inside paned from the door you can check the motor by unplugging the motor and plugging jumper wires from the battery to the plug. Have a friend touch the wires onto the battery. If the motor does not start, reverse the wires and try again. There are travel stop switches in the motor. From your description I would guess it's not the motor.
