I've been shopping for a Pilot to replace a Jeep lease that's up in
two weeks and just heard about this yesterday.

Honda has some new lease deals on 2005 Pilots, at least here in
Arizona. Pilot EX with leather and navigation, for $386/month,
including sales tax. About $3,100 to close, which includes first
payment, license, misc. fees and a bit of cap reduction.

That's a hell of a deal on a $34,000 Pilot if anyone is interested.
Just thought I'd pass it on. We'll pick up ours on Friday.

So that's like $472/month if you were to do no $ down? Why put money down
on a lease? I never understood that. You are not paying interest on a
lease. Anyway, I don't think it's that great of a deal. My simple formula
for calculating a 3 year lease is never ever pay more than you would pay in
payments if you were to buy it over 7 years. You are paying more than that.
It's a Honda, it will hold it's value over 7 years. I bet you can get your
payments down to $450/month over 7 years with no money down.

Were the lease negotiable, you're probably correct. But these
Honda offered specials, like other mfg specials, are usually fixed
in stone.

I agree that cap cost reduction money is not usually money well
spent, and in 23 years of leasing, I've never done it.

Also remember that part of that initial "down payment" is at least
one lease payment, licensing and other fees. The cap reduction is
maybe about $2K. Divide that by 36 and add to $386 and the
realized monthly payment is about $441. Still not a bad deal on a
$34K car.

There is no way purchase payments over seven years would ever be
$450. The interest rate on five years is 5-6 percent, and
increases dramatically for seven years. I'd bet that over that
time, you would pay at least $46,000 for a $34,000 car.

OK. I've just never liked the idea of leasing, especially a Honda. But
yeah, I figured wrong. I can get a 7 yr at 6% but for 36K that's 525.

Some people do not like to drive a car more than 3 year old. Some people can
write off the lease expense to get the tax credit.
I personally do not like a car more than 5 year old if it is a Toyota or 3
year old if it is a Honda because of thier power train warranty. I neve like
the other brand.

Oh, I hate driving a car for more than 3 years too, but sometimes leasing is
out of the question. I drive about 15K miles a year and it just doesn't
make sense. I have kids too ;}, so forget about keeping a car spotless.

Boy, you don't understand how leasing works, do you.

Yes, you're paying ALL the interest on the amount of money the lessor
uses to acquire that vehicle from the dealer.

If you don't understand that concept, you need to step back and do some
learning--and stop leasing cars until you understand that concept.
