Default 1996 Honda Accord

Hi,
I have a 97 honda accord (same as 96 accord) and i had problems with
my check engine light coming on. My car runs and feels fine but i dont
know why the CEL light comes on. I usually fix the light problem by
disconnecting one end of the battery to reset the power on my car.
But after a month or so the light comes on again. I've been doing
this for a year now. Is this an accord problem or is there really
something wrong with my car?

Thanks

I assume you are in the US. Since your car runs fine (including
reasonable fuel consumption), my first guess would be to have the
gasoline filler cap tested. Any Lube Stop or Quickie Lube type place
can do that.

Also, do you ever fill your car while the engine is running?

Also, check to make sure the cap is tight and well sealed every time
(turn the cap until it clicks).

Failure in any of these can cause the CEL light to come on.

Hope this helps.

Visit or call various auto parts stores in your town. Some of the them
will hook up a tester and tell you what's wrong with your car. They will
do it for free. It's probably something simple--
