Car: 1995 Honda Passport
Issue: Clicking sound from timing belt. Remedy: Replace Timing Belt Tensioner Problem: I already have installed a new timing belt. The tensioner was known to be bad at replacement, but no replacement tensioner was available. I now have the new tensioner ready to be installed. Can I just install the new tensioner and keep existing timing belt, or should I replace the belt as well? The existing timing belt has about 3,000 miles on it; however, it has been operated by the old, failing tensioner. TIA Aaron |

The tensioner simply keeps it taut. It does not pull it or drive it. |

If the Honda logo has been 'burnt' off the belt, maybe it should be changed. That logo will last over 100,000 miles in a healthy engine. 'Curly' |

You are going to the trouble of tearing it apart to replace the tensioner
why not do the job right and replace the belt too. Why take the chance. You cannot look at the timing belt and determine if it is ok. The cost of the belt is cheap insurance...
