Default Factors to consider when ordering Accord Hybrid?

Hi Folks:

This is my first post here. I am considering ordering the '05 Accord
Hybrid. Some dealerships here in San Diego are taking orders on a
waiting list with a refundable $500 deposit. I have never pre-ordered
a car before like this. Are there any factors you would recommend I
consider in doing this?

One of the things I am mulling over is wondering which options I want.
I am assuming that I will need to have all of these "finalized" at the
time I order since there won't necessarily be any more Accord Hybrids
available for some time if I decide I don't want a particular option
that came with the particular Hybrid I ordered. But "finalizing" this
is made more difficult bc I've been told the new catelog for optional
features for the Hybrid Accord isn't yet available. Any suggestions?

thanks,
Craig

You will probably just have to wait. Another option is to visit the local
Honda shop or Honda's web site about once a week to find the information
you seek ASAP. If you need the car now--go ahead and buy it. If not, wait
and purchase next year's model of the same car. When any car company--even
Honda--comes out with a unique new car, it has some bugs or problems.
Honda keeps track of those problems as a result of the warranty program.
When next year's (2006) model of the same vehicle is made, they make sure
they have fixed any bugs they found in the 2005 model. Of course, Honda
and the other car companies will not admit to this fact since they want as
many people as possible to buy the 2005 model. I read this info. in a book
about cars.

I hate to burst your bubble, but I am in doubt that your order will include
the exact car you want. There are waiting lists for every hybrid that will
be produced and the dealership that you are working with will put your name
on a list and as hybrid Accords hit the lot, the name at the top of the list
will be called. Most likely, you will be having to settle for what arrives
first or continually wait until the car that most closely resembles what you
want arrives, which might take some time. I hope all works out well for
you.

I understand that in some states you get a tax break or even able to cruise
the car-pool lanes solo in a Hybrid car. I own two Hondas now and a few in
the past. They were and are great cars. The only problem I have with
Hybrid cars is the battery part. Yes, car markers back them longer than the
rest of the car, but I still am not sure about all the problems that might
arise from them. A few fire departments around the country have special
procedures when responding to a crash.
Yes, Hybrids are nice, "if the good points are more than the bad".
Facts or figures to think about:
*additional cost of Hybrid verses regular car
*how many miles will you have to drive at better MPG to overcome the
additional cost
*tax break
*going solo in the car-pool lanes
*replacement cost of batteries for the hybrid system after 10 years or so
*trade in/or selling price

My uncle just bought a VW Jetta Diesel. He gets 45-50 MPG on the highway
and it sounds just like a normal car. Also, a diesel has lots more low end
pulling power than a gas. I am looking at getting a VW Golf diesel when my
1986 Prelude Si bites the dust. It has 235K on it now.

Good luck in you car buying
