Default 2000 Odyssey

I recently bought a used 2000 Honda Odyssey. 47K miles on it. I bought it
and then drove it home, quite a distance. Imagine my horror, when I
discovered trans oil all over the rear hatch door and window. Leaking
around the axle seal, with play in the diff.
The dealership where I was diagnosed, gave me a copy of the bulletin that
says Honda is honoring the trans. problems. Any one had any experience with
this? Results good?
Otherwise, I am delighted with the van. The mpg is incredible..the comfort
level is great.

Those vans have known transmission problems, and the general consensus
is that Honda is quietly but effectively taking care of things.

Your van has an extended warranty on the transmission to 7 years/100K
miles. That's the official line. Unofficially, my guess is that you'll
never pay for a transmission repair ever--Honda will handle it.

They're on the cusp of some very bad publicity on their transmissions
over the past 6-7 years, and they're trying not to become "just another
Chrysler".

"The mileage is incredible" -- care to elaborate? I like my '01 Odyssey a
lot, but with the exception of one 400-mile freeway segment where I got
almost 30 mpg, I wouldn't describe the mileage as "incredible."

Well, I am coming from driving a 16yo Astro van. I was lucky to get 20/21
mpg. (all this is highway mileage) On one Odyssey tank, I got 25.9mpg.
Yes, I would like to get the 30mpg...maybe once I get the van serviced and
maybe tuned...
I guess my "incredible" is relative to the Astro.
I have a little Nissan Frontier that doesn't do as well as the Odyssey.

Re. mileage on a 2000 Odyssey. We get a consistent 26 to 28 mpg on our
van. This, on trips from Knoxville north to Michigan/Ohio, from Knox to
Gulf Shores AL, from Knoxville to Houston TX, and Knoxville to
Charleston SC. It doesn't seem to matter if the van is loaded with
luggage or not. We set the cruise on 70 and run the interstates with
a.c. on the whole way. Our friends have a same year Caravan and get a
high of about 22mpg. The only apparent difference is that at 70mph,
their van is turning about 2500 rpm, ours is running at 2000 mpg which
must be the major difference.

We get 18-19 mpg in town and 24-26 on the highway (75+ mph). 2000 Odyssey
