98 Accord, 4cyl , LX , VTEC
P/N 15400-PLM-A01, smaller filter, then the old one, and the base of the filter is contacting the the metal casting, along with the gasket. When I bought them at the dealer, I asked the parts guy if these, were the correct ones. He said Honda made a change and these should do it. He is full of crap, because it leaks, and connot be tightened, and it is Sunday, so off I go to Autozone. Just pisses me off! Did Honda make a change in there filters? Thanks, Andy |

Yes..they made a universal filter that is supposed to fit most Hondas.... My
96 Accord Ex 4cyl vtec used to be a more substantial filter, but now they are kind of puny little filters which requires me to buy a new smaller filter wrench.. You may have the wrong filter but I would think there is something else going on..perhaps the gasket is twisted or missing or the old gasket is stuck on or there is dirt on the surface...I don't know. I have some newer filters in the garage..I will post later when I get the number off of them. Capt.
Check it out... The bottom of the filter bottoms out just when the gasket bottoms, the edge of the filter rubs into the casting on the oilfilter mount. I don't know, but I put a Fram to replace it,it has a larger bottom and clears the casting, and it is fine.. The part number you have is the same part number I have on my oil filters
that I have been using. I have several still wrapped in plastic. The gasket is an oring hybrid type. It doesn't go much above the metal filter lip but it tightens fine and it doesn't leak. I suspect the metal to metal contact would prevent over tightening of the filter. If your mating surfaces are clean there shouldn't be any leaks. The instructions on the side say turn to make contact then turn 3/4 of a turn.
