I monitor my gas mileage for the same reason older people monitor their blood
pressure: It's not a bad measure of the overall health of the vehicle.

So, yes, record miles between fillups, save your gas receipt to show the gallons
used, and calculate mpg each time. Maybe jot it down in a notebook or on a
spreadsheet, with the month and year.
