Hi All,

I have a 1994 Civic LX D15B7 (non-vtec 106 HP) and planning to swap a VTEC
engine possibly D15B series from 1995 Civic EX (VTEC 130 HP). What I have
been told is to watch for two things (1) ECU (P30) and (2) Wiring harness. I
was also told that I don't need any additional parts such as engine mount,
axels, shift linkage, etc. Everything else can be used from my car.

Did any of you have done any such engine swaps? If so, what should I watch
for? Do I need to worry about any other impotent parts, expected swap time,
etc.

I have looked at the following site on engine sawps
http://tech.hybridgarage.com/tech/5gtech/index.html. But, nothing there
about an engine swap from non-vtec to vetc.

Any help or pointing me to any website is appreciated.

d15b from a 95 is the same engine you ahve, no vtec, you want a d16z6 (92-95
ex) , and its 125hp. Also the ecu is the p28. Wiring is the same except you
have to wire up the vtec selenoid which is 2 wires, one goes to the ecu, the
other is ground.

Thanks for the info.

The engine I am looking for is JDM VTEC version and I was told its a D15B
series with 130 HP. Its on sale on eBay and the seller is claiming it is a
direct bolt-on to my car with no modification except ECU. He even indicated
that my car's (USDM) wiring harness has already two additional wires for
VTEC. All I need is the ECU.

I am just curious to see whether anyone else has swapped the JDM VTEC into a
USDM D15B7.

There is no such thing as a d15 vtec, 92-95 jdm civics came with a d16zc,
this guy sounds kind of shady to me, another reason is teh wiring, it is NOT
in your dx's wiring harness, and i forgot today, but there is a 3rd wire for
wiring your vtec, sorry, slipped my mind, there is a green, blue and black.

Probably the VTEC pressure switch (VTM). Black wire to ground, BLU/BLK
to ECU.

There was a D15 VTEC engine of sorts, the D15Z1 which was the fuel
efficient VTEC-E engine in the VX model. 92 bhp, so hardly a performance
upgrade.

yes, vtec switch and oil pressure sensor =), and true, there was the d15z1,
but it was usdm and it sucked =)

I may have to look at option#2 B16A2 with 160 HP.

Your info on D15B is incorrect.
The JDM market had the D15B SOHC VTEC motors, they were rated at 130 ps or
about 125 hp, same as the D16Z6. They consist of VX/D15Z1 short blocks with
D16Z6 pistons and head. The D15B cam is also a little more agressive than
the USDM D16Z6, why it has the same output rating.

To the orginal poster, your stock EX P28 ECU will run the D15B, but you'd be
better off getting the correct ECU or having yours chipped to D15B specs.
