Hello,
I have a 1991 Accord LX Automatic with 150K miles. Last night when going home, the green S light started flashing but the car was driving well. I pulled over and turned off the engine. After a couple of minutes, I turned the engine back on and the flashing went away. The car drives fine. What could it be? On another issue, sometimes the speedometer goes briefly (1-2 secs) down to 0 when I am driving. It happens very rarely. Once every 3+ months. Thank you for your time and help. CN |

If you live there they use road salt, you could have a grounding problem. Also, have you changed your tranny fluid as the manual recommends? 'Curly' |

The Green "S" light generally becomes on if you are driving the car with
Transmission in "Sports" mode, check that first. Its a small button on the Transmission stick. I had a speed sensor go out once on a different manufacture's car at
100K miles. It was easy to fix. On that car, the sensor hung off the transmission. The sensor had a little nylon gear that was driven from the transmission. The sensor converted the movement of the gear into an electrical signal that was sent up to the car's control modules. Then the control modules sent signals to the speedometer read out on the dash board. The car got confused with being driven around with no detected speed and so it turned on the engine warning light! It was very easy to replace - just undid the wiring harness, removed the bolts holding the sensor to the tranmission, and changed out the gear. Cost just a little bit of money. In my service manual for a 95 accord, the location of the sensor is not identified but it does show it as follows: There is a wiring harness that goes to a unit that has two phillips screws and two bolts. To replace the sensor, the two bolts are removed. When removing the sensor, the manual warns not to loose the little "drive link". The "drive link" is the mechanical device that turns and juts out from the interior (of the transmission?) . |
