Default CR-V Fires

Make sure you hire a competent technician to change your oil! See Below
HONDA ENGINE FIRES

Reported and Web Produced by: John Matarese
Updated: 07/09/04 17:57:55

ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES ON THE ROAD IS UNDER
INVESTIGATION TONIGHT ... AFTER MORE THAN TWO DOZEN ENGINE FIRES.

THE GOVERNMENT IS INVESTIGATING FIRES IN CERTAIN HONDA SUV'S.

THIS IS A CONCERN BECAUSE THE FIRES ARE HAPPENING AFTER OIL CHANGES, IN SOME
CASES AFTER THE VERY FIRST OIL CHANGE AT 3,000 MILES!

AT LEAST 27 HONDA CR-V'S, 2003 - 2004, HAVE CAUGHT FIRE AFTER OIL CHANGES,
ACCORDING TO GOVERNMENT REPORTS.

THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRANSPORTATION SAFETY ADMINISTRATION BELIEVES OIL
LEAKED ONTO HOT EXHAUST SYSTEM DURING "SLOPPY" OIL CHANGES, AND CAUGHT FIRE.

IT TURNS OUT THE OIL FILTER IS CLOSER TO THE CRV'S HOT ENGINE MANIFOLD THAN
IN OTHER CARS.

I WOULD MAKE SURE YOUR TECHNICIAN KNOWS ABOUT THE RISK OF FIRE WHEN CHANGING
OIL.

NO RECALL AT THIS POINT...SO WHEN CHANGING THE OIL, TO BE CAREFUL NOT TO
SPILL.

I think you have a more serious problem than your CR-V bursting into
flames. Your Caps Lock key is broken!

<SNIP>

Since when is the first oil change on a CRV at 3,000 miles ? ?

Any car will burn if you slop oil on the exhaust pipe.

GM's and Fords burn up every day. Why don't they make the news?

To think Scott Peterson could have just bought his wife a Honda CR-V?

We're having a big discussion over this issue in the forums at Edmunds.com

So far around 30 CR-Vs have charred up, and another 150 got disabled
following oil changes. You Honda loyalists are viewing this as a non-issue,
as it's only affecting 1 out of every 1000 CR-Vs. If this is indeed a
non-issue and is perfectly normal for a car...why have this attracted the
attention of the NHTSB and the media? Would you strap yourself, your wife
and your kids into a CR-V following a visit to Jiffy Lube, if you knew that
you had a 1/1000 chance of the car going in flames or all of a sudden
breaking down?
I've learned to not trust what corporations, politicians or celebrities tell
me at face value. Something shady is going on with Honda that they don't
want to reveal. As soon as I get some money I will be trading in my 2004
CR-V for a car that doesn't explode after an oil change. In any case
hopefully Honda will do the right thing and recall this car before anyone
dies.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Bush "Iraq has tons of Weapons of Mass Destruction"
Honda "The CR-V fires have been caused by dumb factory-certified
technicians, that's the extent of it"
Ken Lay "I didn't know Enron was collapsing"
OJ Simpson "I'm 100% not guilty"
Bill Clinton "I did not have sexual relations with that woman..."

Or maybe, people that have a CR-V will make sure that the people they allow
to perform work on their vehicle's are qualified to use a screwdriver or
wrench. And, that they have a steady enough hand to pour liquids without
spilling them ;^)
