That's Indy, anybody been watching Honda's efforts in F1.

BAR-Honda has been doing extremely well in the last few Grand Prix, beating
up BMW-Williams and Mercedes McClaren, and is currently behind Renault and
Ferrari in the Manufacturers Championship, third in the Driver's list, with
Button behind Ferrari's Schumacher and Barrichello...

We're coming up on Montreal this weekend, and Indy next weekend, and if
BAR-Honda is running as they have been, they may pick up even more points
and pass Renault.

Tim

Default Honda engines at the Indy 500 this year

The top six finishes at the Indy 500 this year were by cars powered with
Honda engines. Pretty impressive if you asked me...

All cars that finished without being lapped were Toyotas or
Hondas with only one exception. Finishing 12 was one Chevy.
Demonstrates advantages of engineering and product oriented
thinking verses MBAs and finance oriented thinking.

Personally, I abhor advertising, but what doesn't Honda make more
of this in its incessant (but maybe not as incessant as GM and Ford)
advertising.

Open-wheel racing(F1,Indy,CART) does more for auto development than "stock
car racing" or dirt track midget racing.So-called "stock cars" use ancient
technology.
Honda passenger car motors use tech developed(recently, not 40 years ago)
for racing.

What Jim writes was a widespread complaint among mechanics
for NASCAR. They all would complain about things they could
do but are not permitted. In NASCAR, other than the engine,
all cars are identical - locking into the anti-American
mentality of "stifle innovation". Identical right down to who
makes the bolt to raise front suspension so they can roll car
into the trailer.

Racing has always been about technology advancement. So
much of what is standard in today's car was developed on the
racing circuits. But not in racing that is about lies. Is it
really a Chevy Lumina? Of course not. A real Lumina is a
front wheel car. It only looks like the shape of a Lumina to
promote the deception all while stifling innovation.

What did some Nascar mechanics complain about? Some simple
safety systems that they could not install because all NASCARs
must be identical. Since then, Earnhart died due to safety
system failure. NASCARs go so slow that there is no reason for
anyone to be hurt. More of why some race circuits have
perverted the purpose of racing.
