Default Radiator Screen

Has anyone put a screen over the lower part of their radiator (the
part you can see through the lower part of the front of the car) to
protect it from rocks and bugs? It's on a 04 Accord Cp.

Thanks.

I have been thinking about this same modification. If there is anyone that
has done this please suggest a good material and type of fastener.

Thank you in advance.

I have done that on a variety of vehicles over the years. The fiberglass
screening is great, and I use the nylon cable ties.

They used to sell screens in all the parts stores for just this purpose.
Then manufacturers started disallowing warranty claims on the grounds that
the airflow through the radiator was reduced too much by the screens. If you
do it, keep your eye on the temperature gauge until you are sure your
cooling system can handle it.

....and then take it off if you have a warranty issue.

Check out http://forums.clubrsx.com/showthread...threadid=75578 and
other similar posts in that forum - lots of damaged condensers in RSXs
apparently. There are also companies selling a finished product now IIRC.

I saw something like this on a site devoted to Honda Elements.
I think they used some black plastic screening originally designed for
covering roof gutters.

The Import custom places are starting to sell generic grill material.
A few years ago I just grabbed a hunk of hardware cloth (like coarse
screening) I had around the garage, hacked it into shape, and tied it
into the inside of the hole in the front fascia (This is 1 92 civic,
btw) with a few pieces of baling wire through holes I poked in the
plastic. Works fine, but I have to clean out leaves that collect down
between where the screen meets the plastic.

I ended up using a piece of perforated plastic for rain gutters, and
black fiberglass screen covering that. Then I just zip tied it to the
car. It's not very noticable at all. We'll see how it works..
