Hi, Can anyone help with a problem my son has with his Honda CRX -
994 -it's a model CRX VTI, with a 1.6 vtec engine 160bhp double overhead cam eng number. V16A21108012. When cold the engine ticks over happily at around rpm 1,300/1,400 whilst cold however if you stop at road junctions the engine dies. It has been services regally at the same garage (not a Honda garage - the nearest one is almost 40 miles away) for many years with no problems. When my son took it back to the garage the engineer said the slow running could not be increased any more without upsetting something else, he suggested It would have to go to a Honda garage for a satisfactory repair. My son have spoken to several other motor engineers who have suggested perhaps the wrong spark plugs have been fitted, or perhaps it's a solenoid valve on the carb is at fault. Has anyone had a similar problems ? JayB |

Also, have the ignitor checked - they're a well-documented failure point in these cars. My 91 CRX Si was exhibiting the same symptoms you describe, and I had to have both the ignitor and the distributor cap/rotor assembly replaced last year. It idles just fine now. Dave |

Go to a honda or a honda trained mechanic,
that has a reputation for good diagnosis. I had a similar problem with my 87. Turns out it was 1. a bad fast idle valve, and 2. the O2 sensor had been hooked up incorrectly. Read the code the computer is giving you. It will be cheaper to take it to a very qualified person once, than go with the cheapo dudes that are not good, 5 times. Trust me.
