I have a 2003 Honda Accord. 6cyl 4 doors.
Ther drivers seat seems to have alittle 'play' in it....i.e...It's loose. When I stop at a light there is a small but noticible 'thump' as the seat moves forward. When I start driving again, there is a little "thump" as the seats moves back. It's more bothersome than anything else. (It appears to be a little more noticable when the seat is adjusted to a middle position....and less noticible when the seat is all the way up or all the way back.) I have been to the dealer (this morning) and the tech said that the seat is installed and attached correctly...so he thinks it may be 'normal' for this car. He can't see anything that could fix it. And it might just be inherant design flaw. Has anyone heard of this? Is there any Honda documentation of this? What should I do? Thanks! |

There is no play at all no matter where I position the seat. On the other hand, I had a Volvo 850 which had a similar rocking for the entire 10 years I had the car. Kept hearing "They all do that". Keep bugging the dealer, might want to say its a safety issue as it disconcerts you when the seat moves. That approach did not work for me with the Volvo, unfortunately. Dave |

My 10 year old Accord's driver seat moves the same way yours does, but
it's barely noticeable. However, in my case I know why it's happening: the seat lost a ball bearing from the rails it moves on. I found it on the floor a while ago, right after I noticed the wobble. I'm just too lazy to take out the seat completely to see where it fell from... Maybe this summer? I second that my Coupe V6/EX does the same thing.... I hardly notice it
now... but it does do it.... and on top of that I can't seem to adjust the seat to a good position. My back seems to hurt after driving for a while... There is no play at all no > matter where I position the seat. Was yours built in Japan or Ohio? So far all of the cars which have reported this problem (including mine) seem to be Ohio cars. I suspect that a different supplier/factory makes the seat system for the US built cars than for the Japan built ones. John |

I concur with all of the above. Annoy the P1ss out of them until they fix
it. After a few more times of non-fixing, start writing the Honda corporate. Also see about writing the NHTSA (National Traffic Safety...or whatever). Stress concern that the seat may break free in a crash. Gov't agencies live for that stuff PLUS that's what they are there for.... for us! Is this the power seat you're referring to? I have been experiencing this with the MANUAL seat in my '03 Accord DX. The dealer replaced the seat back mechanism, with no effect. He wants to change the seat pan mechanism next, it's on order. I checked it in a new '04 on the lot; it did the same thing. Then tried an '04 with power seat (sorry, didn't note trim level or place of manufacture), and it did NOT wobble... --Gene |

No passenger has mentioned play, but then again, that seat is not occupied as frequently as the driver seat. I agree that it can be struggle to get dealers / manufacturers to deal with this kind of stuff. The odd logic seems to be that they will fix it if it is a problem only you have, but won't fix it if many of the cars have the problem. I would be more receptive to a dealer saying, hey, we could replace the seat but it is not likely to totally fix the problem since it seems like most of the cars do this (ie, there is a design flaw rather than something defective in your car). Then it is an issue for Honda to address; the dealer can't do much about it other than make sure Honda understands that they have a lot of people complaining about the same thing. |
